I interviewed someone I work with who recently had a situation
where he integrated technology into his teaching curriculum. I had the
opportunity to assist with the project and from my perspective, it seemed to work
very well.
I used my laptop to record the interview, but if I were to
continue publishing podcasts, I would invest in better equipment.

ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed your interview! It is so great to see that technology can be available to help facilitate training of America’s best and brightest in the military. Synchronous learning platforms, such as the one that your interview subject describes, are so important to the field of education and also in the workplace. I find myself in meetings hosted by similar software platforms (i.e. Go To Meeting) many times throughout the week. I am able to coordinate events and work across the state in a very hands-on fashion from my office instead of spending all of my time in the car traveling to these destinations for meetings. I am able to get real time answers from key players. As far as in an educational setting, Anderson and Garrison (1998) state that learners need to interact with teachers and peers to truly learn and that reading course materials themselves are not enough. If that is the case, synchronous learning platforms help facilitate this interaction in a meaningful way. It allows for immediate clarification of meaning and simulation of a real classroom learning environment unlike asynchronous learning platforms (Steeples, Jones & Goodyear, 2000). As access to broadband connections and technology continue to increase, I am confident we will see the popularity of this type of learning platform expand in both the classroom and the workplace.

Wonderful interview! Interesting that common themes keep arising throughout with regard to integrating technology; time efficiency, convenience, continuous connectivity are the three I immediately thought of. It is tremendously helpful to be able to train students in their current location through a simulcast technology, getting everyone the information they need in a timely manner. The interactivity helps address questions and concerns. This system seems like a good fit for this program. Thank you for sharing a great topic with us!
